For those of you who will be in town on Friday night and who aren't familiar with Richmond, we have a few ideas to keep you occupied...
Friday Cheers
This is a free music concert on Fridays in Richmond during the Spring and Summer. It takes place on Brown's Island, which is in downtown Richmond on the James River. Friday, May 8 is the first concert and should be an awesome time. For more info, check out http://www.venturerichmond.com/events/vrevents.html
Second Friday Sampler
This is an art class that the Visual Arts Center (where our reception is being held) puts on on the second Friday of every month. It's free, but you should get there early to make sure you get into the class -- they fill up fast! Check out www.visarts.org for more info.
Mamma Zu's
This is Jed's and my favorite restaurant in Richmond. It's an amazing treat, but some caveats: first, be prepared for a wait -- if you arrive at dinner time on a Friday, you're going to have about an hour wait; second, bring cash, check, or AmEx -- they don't take Visa, MC, or Discover. It is located at 501 S. Pine Street, Richmond, 23220. From the city, you would take Belvidere Street heading South, turn right onto Spring Street, and it's up one block on the left. It's rather unassuming from the street, so look hard.
Carytown
Carytown is a great place to go for a delicious dinner and some drinks. It's located just west of downtown and had lots of yummy restaurants and nice bars. You could easily spend a few hours there and have a delightful time. Recommendations: Weezie's Kitchen for good American food, CanCan for modern French fare, Mary Angela's for delicious pizza, or New York Deli for drinks (but a warning -- their food isn't the best).
Robinson Street
If you want to go out where most young adults in Richmond go out, head to Robinson Street. It's in the Fan, and it has bars all along it. This is where a good portion of the nightlife is.
Shockoe Slip/Shockoe Bottom
This is where the Richmond "club" scene exists -- it's on Cary Street downtown and it has a variety of bars, clubs, and trouble to get into.
